There are no official or agreed upon definitions for superyacht or megayacht, but these terms are regularly used to describe large, luxurious, professionally crewed motor or sailing yachts, ranging from 40 metres (130 ft) to more than 180 metres (590 ft) in length.
Superyachts are often available for charter with a crew that caters to guests at a very high standard of comfort. They may be designed to emphasise comfort, speed, or expedition capability. Depending on the season, super-yachts are most frequently found in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, but are increasingly found in other waters around the world. With swimming pools, a variety of water toys, tenders, and even a helicopter & submarine, superyachts offer their owners or charterers the ultimate waterborne experience.
As of 2016, there were approximately 10,000 luxury yachts and superyachts over 24 metres in length, worldwide. Of these about 80% were power yachts. With approximately 150 new yachts being launched each year, the choice for yacht charterers and owners is ever increasing.
